Your business card: healthy looks!

I remember the times when I would walk past organic shops and cringe at the possibility of ever becoming adept to this ever-growing trend. The reason, I never believed changing my entire eating habit into organic-only would bring any significant change to my overall health and appearance; not to mention the effect this lifestyle would have on my bank account digits. But this was a long time ago! Today, making sure I am up to date with the latest fashion trends is not all. With new world trade agreements popping out on the news ever so often, what goes into my supermarket basket also goes through a rigid selection process. After all, healthy and glowing looks will inevitably play a huge role in the first impression you leave lingering on the mind of your potential other half. Remember: you are what you eat! So let's have a look at a few organic options which really make a difference when it comes to skin and hair.

The holy grail to flawless beauty

Why organic? Let's start with the fact that mass producers need to make sure their products can leave up to the market demand expectations. That is, the product needs to be on supermarket shelves and in large quantities. For food to be more attractive and resilient throughout time, farmers may use a number of solutions; that is, synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, growth hormones, and antibiotics may be used on the tomatoes you buy so it waits for you with that perkiness and shine everyone loves to see. And depending on which country you live that may also mean genetically modified organisms. Since we started off by addressing my past belief that going organic would have an impact on my finances, let's go straight to some answers that will demystify some small but important aspect of the organic lifestyle. This way we will see exactly how to have a healthy diet without going into the red.

The advantages of organic & conventional

We could go on and on about the pros of having your pantry overflowing with organic products but instead let's focus on whether going full organic really matters. Let me introduce you to the Dirty Dozen: Twelve additives that you can definitely do without if you are thinking of going clean. And consequently, the foods which have a high concentration of them. Those are the ones from which the organic choice is a must. The additives are Nitrates and Nitrites, Potassium Bromate, Propyl Paraben, Diacetyl, Aluminum additives, Phosphate additives, Theobromine, Artificial colors, Artificial flavors, Propyl Gallate, Butylated Hydroxyanisole and Butylated Hydroxytoluene.

What this means is straight forward: you see any of those additives on the packaging nutritional information, out with it; go for the organic equivalent. As for the Clean Fifteen, you can just pop their conventional non-organic option into your shopping basket, as they retain very little additives for concern: avocados, sweet corn, pineapples, cabbages, onions, frozen sweet peas, papayas, asparagus, mangoes, eggplants, honeydew melons, kiwis, cantaloupes, cauliflower and broccoli.
